Oddball DOF GI by Calzinger Oddball DOF GI by Calzinger
3D Studio Max 8
VRay Adv 1.47.02
Render time: 78hr 21min 59sec
GI (Global Illumination/Indirect Illumination)
DOF (Depth of Field): f/3.5

The original Oddball GI render needed some more to it. Since it had objects that fell off into the distance, I thought a DOF would be perfect to showcase that element. To be honest, I think this one came out a whole lot better. For an eighty hour render, I'd certainly hope that it came out good! I'd like to hear your thoughts on the DOF.

Now I can finally get back to doing some renders.

I just wanted to say that for many years this pic has been the background on my myspace and desktop...one of the best things I've ever seen. Thanks!

This is SO well made!
Only these days I can't help but wonder if you've got it wrong; it's more common to be a sad sphere these days. It's unfortunate, but people think they're original for being sappy all the time, when it's the total opposite. But I'm sure you - as well as everyone else - already know that :(

Society blows.

I think the DOF is too shallow. I know you probably did it to draw the attention to the sad ball, but I think a deeper DOF would have make the pic look better.

Other than that, great job :)

Neat render. Makes me really want to get back into 3D again! There's something so fulfilling when you have a good result after waiting 80 hours of rendering time. ;)

I've also waited 80 hours of rendering time to be disappointed. Hey, some you win, some you lose.

Oh yeah, I've been there as well. And when it was for a school project on a deadline ... that's really not what you want to see!

I think you should target the balls faces to the camera that way they are all facing it... Just an idea... Good Work!!!

I actually tried doing that but it isn't exact. I was too lazy to go around rotating them individually so I kind of did a mass rotate.

Hah, thanks. Glad to see it found a home.
I'm using an eVGA 6800GT, water cooled, overclocked to 460/1260 from stock 350/1000. Rendering is more about CPU power and memory bandwith though.

Ahhh you crap! I remember you suggested that I get an Opteron. Haven't had a chance as I'm pouring in money into this photography thing. I might pull out the 2.8L non-IS by the end of the summer.

ahhh haah finally. i saw a couple of your shots on the 2.8 IS and i was like WOAH WHAT WHEN!!! hahaah what did you think of it? worth the extra coin? If you ever need a macro lens i highly reccomend the Tokina AT-X pro 100 macro. sharper, and seemingly better bokeh than the canon. also more flare resistant when looking at its design (recessed front element). slower less accurate focusing though i believe, but with macro you manual focus any how. i have 2 of them. (Nikon + Canon)

Not my lens sir. :(

If I were to ever go macro, I'd probably get some tubes since I don't plan to get into serious macro.
