70-200 f/2.8L, compromised noise reduction
My desk

There are two reasons I took this shot:
#1: Enjoy the vast lighting situations I can shoot in with the larger aperture. f/4 to f/2.8 might be just one stop, but it's one hell of a stop.
#2: I have developed very steady hands lately. It isn't just a breathing technique; I notice how steady the picture appears in the viewfinder when I can take the time to be steady. I have been able to consistently take shots two stops slower than the recommended shutter speed by 1/EFL (1/effective focal length). It's basically the equivalent of IS. The downside is that I haven't really been able to translate this into while "out in the field", but it could easily be a mental thing as it was at the F1 GP.

If you're a coffee junkie, don't bother reading anything below.

To expand on the "steadiness" factor, some people are more steady than others. I think you can develop a steady hand. There are breathing techniques and stance techniques. I've found that the key to keeping your frame steady is not one of the aforementioned techniques but how you hold your camera.

This is obviously personal preference, but this is what works for me. I always grasp the lens by putting my left hand under it. Never will I play this game of holding the camera completely with my right hand and simply using my left hand to twist some rings. No, all the weight is actually put in my left hand as I twist the rings. The right hand is simply meant to guide the camera so I can gently press the shutter. For heavy telephoto lenses, such as the one I use which weighs in at 1.3kg, this technique becomes more beneficial.

Using this technique has given me two stops under 1/EFL fairly consistently. Then again, I have also had shots at 200mm with 1/400" that were lost to camera shake. Make sense? Sure doesn't!

Okay, as for the shot, I didn't meant for it to come out as anything. Like said, it was meant to find the limit of the f/2.8 and my ability to handhold. I do find it funny though that this shot features a wireless router with a bunch of wires behind it. I don't even use my router anyway, can't really use it cause of some server stuff I do.

as a fellow coffee junkie, i hear you. i've developed a deep-breath calming routine as well as shaking and stretching the hands. not a violent shake ... more gentle and fluttering of fingers. i really only go crazy on the coffee if i've had an insane lack of sleep or i'm pulling a double-shift and i need a kick. the kick comes in after 3 coffees.

any plans on kicking the habit, or at least decreasing the intake?
