i don't know how this car won races, but it legitimately gained pace to the front. it certainly wasn't a pack leader, but it gave the BMWs a run for their money.

The car won races because over the last half of the season, Alonso spent a lot of time in the car and told the mechanics exactly what was wrong. Alonso is notorious for setting up the car really well, so that helped the Renault car to win races and be very consistent the last half of the season. Alonso finished fourth several times, won twice, and came in second at the Interlagos.

i don't want to put the entire success down to alonso. he even admitted himself that they hadn't made any breakthrough improvements towards the end of the season that would've accounted for the pace.

let's face it, his victory in singapore was a gift of the safety car. contrarily, his victory in japan was of his own muscle and an overaggressive lewis hamilton.

don't get me wrong, i'm not taking anything away from alonso. but even he can't make up for inferior engineering.

Yeah I agree with you completely. You have to give credit to Alonso for his brilliant driving and determination, but seriously, the win in Singapore was a gift ;) Regardless of anything Renault may (or may not) have done, they will look very promising going into the 2009 season. Also I'm looking forward to seeing Force India's improvements and Honda's driver announcements!
